Foundation Awards over $700,000 in
Florida Conservation Grants at Annual Meeting

The Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida (FWFF) awarded over $700,000 in grants for conservation for 2015. Chairman Rodney Barreto said” we just love this time of year when we get to support so many worthy conservation efforts throughout the state through our granting process”.

The source of these grants funds is from the sale of three specialty license plates to the public. The Foundation’s Board worked hard and after careful review unanimously made the award decisions.

The Conserve Wildlife or Bear Tag, funded 9 grants for a total of $470,320, including:

  • $63,000 to the eradication of the invasive Northern African Python.
  • $50,000 to the Southeastern Species at Risk Program

The Protect Florida Springs Tag funded 13 grants totaling $169,342, including:

  • $6,900 to the Wakulla Springs Alliance for the Following the Water to Wakulla Springs video
  • $15,000 to the Howard T. Odum Florida Springs Institute for the Ichetucknee Springs Baseline Assessment Study.

The Wildlife Foundation of Florida Deer Tag funded 16 Grants for $78,372, including:

  • $2,500 to the FWC for the Game Cleaning Stations on the Tate’s Hell Wildlife Management area
  • $2,500 to Future of Hunting in Florida for the Future of Hunting in Florida Youth Hunt Camp.

“Florida is like no other place on earth, and working together we can keep it that way. So please continue to buy your favorite conservation license plate. We are already looking forward to providing even more funding for deserving conservation projects next year, with your help,” said Rodney Barreto, Chairman of the FWFF. Since 2000, the Foundation has awarded over $6.5million dollars in conservation grants in Florida.
